Dr. Wasiak is a Research Scientist with the UBC's Center for Health Economics and Policy with extensive applied research experience in designing and executing health economic, health services, and multidisciplinary research. His past research includes analyses of effectiveness of health care interventions related to conditions such as back or knee pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and work-related fractures, with a particular focus on recurrence of these conditions. His work also included investigations of the relationship between health care interventions and work productivity.
At UBC, he is responsible for design and implementation of studies and conceptualizing advanced study designs and protocols and statistical analysis plans. As a principal investigator, his responsibilities are to review and finalize project deliverables and ensure that study findings are valid and reliable.
Prior to joining UBC, Dr. Wasiak was a Research Scientist at the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety, where he developed an extensive expertise with multi-level claim and secondary databases as well as with different aspects of research project quality review. His research also included several literature reviews of health and productivity of the workforce. His work was presented at numerous conferences and has been published in Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice, Spine, The Spine Journal, Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health, Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health, and Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation.
Dr. Wasiak holds a PhD and MA in Economics from the University of Connecticut, as well as MSc in Finance and Banking from the University of Economics, Poznan, Poland. He is currently holding an adjunct appointment at the Harvard School of Public Health.
