Dr. Sharrar has a long and distinguished career in public health and in pharmacovigilance. He spent 17 years as the city’s epidemiologist for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health where he was responsible for monitoring the surveillance of communicable diseases in Philadelphia, for managing the various diseases control programs and for conducting outbreak investigations of acute communicable diseases, including the investigation of Legionnaire’s disease.

He has also had 17 years’ experience with the pharmaceutical industry monitoring the safety profile of products primarily in the post-marketing environment and for developing, writing, implementing and monitoring risk management plans for newly marketed products.

Dr. Sharrar has authored many scholarly publications, been a Lecturer and Clinical Assistant Professor at prominent universities and received numerous academic and professional honors.
