Louis S. Matza, PhD, is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing patient outcomes studies with an emphasis on health-related quality of life and psychopathology. Dr. Matza’s experience in clinical psychology, involving empirical research and applied clinical work with children and adults, brings to UBC additional expertise in psychopathology, complemented by first-hand knowledge of the challenges associated with psychiatric treatment.
Through extensive clinical experience in psychiatric, medical and community mental health settings, Dr. Matza has gained expertise in a broad range of psychiatric disorders and medical conditions. His therapy and assessment experience with child, adolescent and adult populations has provided insight into social, emotional and cognitive functioning. His research has emphasized creative and rigorous measure development.
Some of his publications in multiple peer-reviewed journals include Archives of General Psychiatry, Medical Decision Making, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, Quality of Life Research and Value in Health.
Dr. Matza earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley, and he completed his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
