Dr Hareendran joined UBC in 2008 after more than 11 years at Pfizer. Most recently she was a Senior Director of the Global Outcomes Research Group, providing strategic direction and implementing outcomes research activities in various therapeutic areas at Pfizer.
Following a degree in Psychology, Human Physiology and Statistics, Dr. Hareendran completed 4 years of Postgraduate training in Social Work in Medical and Psychiatric settings and then completed her PhD in ‘Quality of life research in cardiovascular diseases’, from National Medical and Mental Health Institutes in India. . She has also worked as a Psychologist in the Lewisham and Guys Mental Health NHS Trust in London, co-ordinating a Community Child Mental health project and has served as a part-time Lecturer at the University of Kent and Canterbury. Prior to that she was a Social Worker with the Departments of Cardiology and Community Medicine at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. Dr. Hareendran has served on the Cochrane Collaboration Quality of Life Methods Working Group, the European Regulatory Issues in Quality of Life Research, ISPOR PRO translations task-force and the FDA PRO - Harmonization Group.
Dr Hareendran has recently lead a cross-pharma consortium for the development of aPatient reported Outcome (PRO) tool as part of the Innovative Medicines Initiative of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations (EFPIA) and European Commission. She has had experience in qualitative and quantitative patient research, especially developing and validating PRO tools in various disease areas to assess outcomes of treatment and contribute to diagnosis. Dr. Hareendran also brings strategic insights in to positioning PRO endpoints for the collection of data to support endpoints in clinical trials to obtain label claims. This includes PRO tools to assess outcomes in BPH, Stroke, Restless Leg Syndrome, Dermal ulcers, COPD, and Asthma.
With expertise in regulatory and strategic issues in outcomes research, Dr Hareendran has also presented workshops and panel discussions about methodological issues related to PROs at numerous international conferences. Dr. Hareendran has published in a number of journals, including: Stroke, Urology, Journal of Wound Care, Clinical Drug Investigation and Value in Health.
